WhimAway Support
WhimAway rebuilds the trips and countries you have visited from the photos already on your phone. It works on your phone, with no account. When it is not sure about a trip, it asks you instead of guessing.
Why is a trip missing?
- The photos are not on the phone. If you use iCloud Photos with Optimize iPhone Storage, older photos may live only in iCloud, and WhimAway does not download them. Open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, then Photos, turn on Sync this iPhone, and let it finish. Then use Look again in WhimAway.
- The photos have no location. A photo taken with Location Services off for the Camera carries no place. WhimAway can place some of these between tagged photos taken close in time, but it will not guess across a long gap.
- Photos access is limited. In Settings, Privacy and Security, Photos, WhimAway, choose Full Access.
- Only one photo or a short stop. One photo, an airport layover, or a photo someone else sent you is not counted as a visit on its own. Look in the Review tab, where WhimAway asks.
- Photos only in Google Photos. Add a Google Photos export or a Google Maps Timeline export from the Sources screen.
- You can also add a trip by hand.
Why does it say "Probably"?
It means the evidence points to a trip but is not enough to be sure, for example a single photo or a place visited briefly. A "Probably" trip is not counted in your totals until you confirm it. Answer the question in the Review tab and your answer is kept even when the history is rebuilt.
How does restore purchase work?
The full-history unlock is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple account. On a new phone, or after reinstalling, open any trip older than a year to reach the unlock sheet and tap Restore purchase. You need to be signed in to the same Apple account. There is no subscription.
What is free?
The whole map, every country, your rank and day counts, and full detail for trips that ended in the past twelve months. The unlock adds trips older than that, their memories, the travel book and exports.
Can I move my history to a new phone?
Yes. Save a copy of your journal from the History screen to Files or iCloud Drive, then choose Restore a journal backup on the new phone's welcome screen. The backup holds your trips, answers and notes, not your original photos. After restoring, the app reads the photo library again to reattach photos. The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust.
Where does my data go?
It stays on your phone. See the privacy policy for the few exceptions, such as the optional detailed maps from Apple and files you choose to share.
